Indian Table Tennis Team for Commonwealth Games 2022: It was on Tuesday, that the Indian Table Tennis selectors revealed the names of the four-member women’s squad for the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games. Archana Kamath also find her name on the list with the Sports Authority of India allowed her to participate in the commonwealth games Table Tennis competition despite not meeting the existing criteria.
The Indian Table Tennis Squad for Commonwealth Games 2022 was picked at the Padukone-Dravid center for sports excellence in Bangalore after a week-long national camp.
This time at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Manika, Archana, Sreeja Akula (ranked 66), Reeth Rishya (ranked 100) along with standby player Diya Chitale (ranked 129) comprise the Indian Table Tennis Squad.
After Manika Batra (39) Archana Kamath is the top performer, however, looking at her domestic performance she was not among the top four players going by the selection criteria.
Swastika Ghosh was included as a reserve while Archana Kamath was dropped from the Indian table tennis team by Diya Chitale.
Fans were shocked to know that the top experienced players Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutritha Mukherjee have been ignored. S D Mudgil, CoA representative and chairperson of the Selection Committee said “ Under the existing selection criteria, one of the members (Archana) falls outside the top four.
The men’s Indian table tennis squad consists of great players Sharat Kamal, G Sathiyan, and Harmeet Desai. Manush Shah is placed on Standby.
At the following events of the World Cup Tennis Tour event of Zagreb (Croatia), Ototec (Slovakia), and Budapest (Hungary) scheduled in June – July the squad of 15 players (eight men and seven women) will be present at the camp to strengthen the squad.
